My Lover (Spotify) Made Me A Playlist

As foreshadowed in my first blog post, I’d like to be able to both write long elaborate prose pieces, and document my life in lists. And what better list than a playlist of my top 100 songs from 2018!

My family switched over from Apple Music to Spotify in August after moving to Canada because the former was no longer the only music app with a group plan suited to us – and as a house of exclusively Androids, it just made sense. I thought it was going to be the same sort of app, just a place for me to find and download music. I wouldn’t say that my expectations were low, there was just nothing to expect.

I couldn’t have been more wrong. In the best way!

@/bodyglitter has it down to a ‘t’!

Over the past four and a half months, Spotify has nuzzled itself a well-deserved space in my heart. It’s endearing features include having a very handy sharing link to Instagram stories, so I can efficiently spam my friends with the songs I’m listening to; suggests songs once my playlist has been rolled through (which is especially useful as I have commitment issues when it comes to playlists – I can never finish what I started – so most of them consist of a grand total of four songs); and sending me emails when various artists are coming to Toronto in the hopes that I’ll take their advice and book tickets (I have yet to attend a Spotify-suggest concert but when I do, I’ll be extra grateful!).

However, among all these quirks, arguably the most remarkable is the annual Top 100 songs. If I wasn’t already a Spotify-devotee, this would have been the cherry-on-top needed to convert me – although Spotify fan or not, this is still the cherry-on-top.

Listen Over Here!

Another handy Spotify feature – it’s just too good to be true!

This Story’s Not Over…

Even though it’s not a complete reflection of my 2018 (Spotify and I haven’t even reached our six-month anniversary yet), it’s a wonderful playlist that does capture some of the songs quintessential of my year. There are so many stories in this list, memories evoked, anecdotes waiting to be retold, little snippets of past-Chanel still hanging on at the edge of my conscious, brought-to-life by these tracks. I feel it’d be too heavy to try and tell all those stories now – especially when some songs have much more depth to them than others – but I will get around to reliving those memories. Until then, analyse these songs and see if you can figure out who I am until I finally publish an About page. I’ll be here blushing ’cause my lover (Spotify) made me a playlist!
